US lawmakers worried about Amazon plan to use drones

US lawmakers have called for new laws and regulations as Amazon is undertaking an experimental project for delivering packages using door-to-door drones.

US CongressUS lawmakers called for new privacy rules before the skies over Americans’ heads “teem with commercial drones.”

“Coloradans will accept this technology only if they are certain their privacy is protected and that Americans won’t be victims of surveillance or privacy abuse by private unmanned aerial system operators,” said Democratic Senator Mark Udall from Colorado.

The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee also said that it would hold a hearing in early 2014 to address the issue of using commercial drones in the US.

“As we move forward toward integrating drones into civilian life and capitalizing on the economic opportunities they offer, we must make certain that these aircraft meet rigorous safety and privacy standards,” said the chairman of the committee, Jay Rockefeller (D-West Virginia).
