Safety case of unmanned cargo aircraft during an international test flight – Presented Robert J. de Boer, Aviation Academy, Hogeschool van Amsterdam at the Unmanned Cargo Aircraft Conference, which takes place on June 13, 2017, at Maaspoort, Venlo, The Netherlands.

Unmanned Cargo Aircraft (UCA) can be a lucrative way for the transportation of air cargo. UCA can be both cheaper to operate and more productive than manned cargo aircraft. Most of the recent scientific contributions focus on the technological aspects of a UCA (Waller, 2016-2017). In this presentation, we present a complete safety case for a test flight with UCA using the STPA/STAMP model. This safety case identifies the risks of the test flight and recommends the correct safety measures to guarantee that the test flight is performed at an acceptable safety level and within all legal boundaries. So that hopefully after this research an actual test flight can be realized.

About Robert J. de Boer
Dr. Robert J. de Boer is Professor of Aviation Engineering at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences since September 2009. He holds a PhD in Cognitive Engineering (Delft University of Technology, NL) and has initiated and developed team collaboration in technical environments in a variety of line management and consultancy roles. These experiences inspired his current scientific interest in organizational safety and process improvement. Robert J. has authored numerous peer-reviewed conference proceedings and journal articles.
