The Perfect Drone Is One With Oculus Rift Head-Tracking Cameras (VIDEO)

If you’ve ever flown a drone or quadcopter, you know how tricky they can be to control. Drones with cameras installed are particularly difficult, as you can’t really see what’s on either side of you without turning the entire rig to face that direction. That annoyance is a thing of the past, thanks to head-tracking tech in the Oculus Rift VR headset.

Someone built a board onto their DJI Phantom 2 drone which consists of two cameras — one for each eye — which feed vision back to the Oculus Rift headset.

While point-of-view drones are nothing new, what’s awesome about this hack is that the camera rig responds to the head movements on the Oculus Rift, and tracks the camera board accordingly. Looking left on the Oculus? Your camera will pan left.
