The DTA is the Apulian aerospace cluster organization, it is a private not-for-profit society. Through its extensive research and development work in aerospace domain, DTA operates mainly as research and innovation service provider for its members and partners with the mission to push the growth of the Apulian aerospace industry.
DTA is leading Grottaglie Airport Test Bed, a large infrastructural programme aimed at developing UAS industry and market by exploiting experimental airport of Taranto-Grottaglie(ICAO code: LIBG).
The Grottaglie Airport Test Bed is a versatile and flexible airport facility able to provide suitable real scenarios and technological systems for UAS test engineering, simulation and emulation, live flight tests and experimental data management applications.
A number of simulated, emulated a real flight tests involving Italian champions, like Leonardo and ENAV, are already planned for Q4 2021 and Q1 2022. The experimentations regard the insertion of UAS into ATM, SATCOM datalink, emergency management services, innovative payloads, cyber security of UAS, GNSS services for UAM, operators workload, and others.
The large unrestricted test arena with appropriate topography enables VLOS, BVLOS and BRLOS operations and missions in a favorable year-round climatic conditions making possible to test research results early in the innovation process but also to test advanced prototypes under real conditions.
Thanks to its agreements with ENAC and ENAV, DTA supports UAS operators in flight test authorization procedures, in provision of logistic services, in airport coordination, access and exploitation of air spaces under the control of experienced and service orientated workforce.
