First flight and real project for future development of Cargo UAV by RTI U-Avitalia/ Piaggio Aerospace/Bcube in partnership with ENAC – Presented by Donatello Gianni, President of Temporary Joint Venture U-Avitalia- Piaggio Aerospace and Bcube, at the Unmanned Cargo Aircraft Conference, on November 23, 2017, at Rivalta di Torino, Italy.
The project, developed in a first phase R&D supported by the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC), ended up in a successful flight test at the Trapani Birgi airport with the MALE UAV P.1HH the 10 and 11 of October. The P.1HH is designed and manufactured by Piaggio Aerospace, in collaboration with Leonardo’s avionics system division and with the support of the Air Force. The findings of the research and test activities represent a milestone to support the development of a future regulation and industrial process for the Unmanned Aerial System above 150 kg, creating the opportunity to enlarge the use of Unmanned Aerial System in both commercial and governmental logistic activities.

About Unmanned Cargo Aircraft Conference
This 5th edition of the conference organized by Jakajima will be hosted by power systems manufacturer Avio Aeroand supported by Platform Unmanned Cargo Aircraft.
Scope: The Conference aims to bring together manufacturers, operators, knowledge institutes, consultants and government organizations active in the upcoming field of unmanned cargo aircraft.
Unmanned Cargo Aircraft (UCA) are a relatively new phenomenon; the first UCA service is to be started in Kenya this year. UCA offer the potential to transport loads of 1 to 10 tons or more over both short and long distances, on routes that are unfeasible or uneconomical for other modes of transport.
During the conference, internationally renowned speakers will introduce UCA development projects and potential applications.
Topics to be covered are:
- UCA business models: how to earn money with UCA?
- UCA configurations: what could – and should – UCA look like?
- Regulation: where are UCA allowed to fly, and under which conditions?
- Societal benefits: what can UCA contribute to economic and social development?
- Industrial participation: how can UCA contribute to innovation and what opportunities do they generate for new enterprises?
- Market analysis
